Est. in 1992
Here in Hawaii, we grew up eating shave ice, after surfing, we would hit our favorite shave ice spot. I have great memories of eating shave ice with my family as a child. When Tina & I got married we were a young poor couple, for our “date night” we would go to Waiola Shave Ice at least once a week, back in those days that was all we could afford. One day, I thought why not buy my own machine then I can make shave ice whenever I want. 30 years later, I’m still using that same machine.
The idea for “Shaka Shave Ice” started with us wanting to treat our employees on long hot summer days. Going Jobsite to Jobsite making shave ice and treating our employees to some refreshment, from there people started requesting our shave ice for their parties, and church activities. We decided to turn this employee appreciation activity into a business, certified with the state, and years and lots of Shave Ice later here we are!
It’s satisfying seeing the excitement on people’s faces, see how happy they are eating shaved ice. The children are so fun, they order by the color, blue, red, everything. The rainbow combination is the most popular with children and adults alike! I enjoy this business because it makes people happy, I like that!
It’s hard work, there is a little science in knowing how to prepare the ice for shaving, how to make the awesome flavors and toppings. It’s another thing I enjoy, trying to create different flavors and, combinations. It takes a lot of trial and error, and my kids have often said “Dad, this tastes gross!” We make the classic style fine shave ice. We have the classic toppings, white cap, Li Hing powder, lemon peel powder, mochi balls, haupia white cap, ice cream in the center.

We come to you that’s our specialty. We love what we do, and it shows in the Aloha we share with each cup of Shave Ice we serve! Our shave ice truck will come to your party and bring the happiness of refreshing shave ice that people in Hawaii have become accustomed to. We love to celebrate with you. Shave Ice makes everyone happy, and we are happy to share it with you!
